Overview

Nestled right at the entrance of Queen Victoria Market’s Dairy Hall, McIver's Coffee & Tea stands as a charming sanctuary for coffee aficionados and tea lovers alike. This quaint stall, tucked within Melbourne’s bustling market scene, offers a distinctly personal and authentic coffee experience that feels like a welcome breath amidst the vibrant surroundings.

The brand’s core strength lies in its dedication to freshness and quality. With a focus on freshly roasted coffee beans sourced from diverse origins—ranging from the fruity Ethiopian Guji and smooth Australian Gold to the sweet East Timor Organic—McIver’s caters to those who seek a genuine connection to their cup. The beans’ freshness is immediately discernible through the vibrant flavour and aromatic richness, especially when brewed via pour-over methods that reveal a depth and liveliness often missing from commercial supermarket options.

Highlighting specialty offerings like Turkish coffee, McIver’s serves not only as a purveyor of excellent beans but also as an educator in the art of coffee appreciation. The staff, often described as warm, knowledgeable, and inviting, enhance this experience by tailoring grinds for various brewing methods including stovetop makers and plungers. This personalized approach creates an environment where customers can explore and deepen their coffee ritual without rush or pretense.

The space itself, while modest, exudes a welcoming charm. It’s a spot well-suited for both Melbourne locals and travelers who value a thoughtfully curated market find more than a generic chain shop. The presence of a carefully selected tea range plus elegant teapots and cups offers an added layer of appeal for those who cherish tea culture or seek unique gift ideas.

In essence, McIver's Coffee & Tea is more than a stall; it’s a small institution within a larger market ecosystem. It embraces the idea that coffee is not merely a beverage but a lifestyle—one that celebrates quality, provenance, and connection. For those hunting for freshness, variety, and an authentic market experience, McIver’s delivers with quiet confidence and memorable flavour.

Quaint little stall right at the entrance of the dairy hall, friendly staff with reasonably priced coffee beans. Coffee beans are of high quality, the richness and liveliness of coffee made from a pour over is indicative of the freshness of their beans, my first time seeing a bed that looks beautiful after I'm done making the coffee, almost looks like a piece of delicious chocolate!

These are exactly the beans that I was looking for (& they're fresh)! Honduras Fairtrade Organic with buttery, sweet, and silky notes - loving the taste of warmth coming out of it. Suitable for winter and mornings! The elderly lady at store was super nice, helpful, and friendly.

Fantastic coffee beans loved by both locals and travelers. The coffee beans are freshly roasted and said to be typically less than a month old if I recall. This is far better than buying commercial roasted beans from supermarkets that have been on the shelves for months. I personally cannot tolerate coffee beans that aren’t freshly roasted because it gives me terrible anxiety and caffeine crashes mid afternoon. This is why I recommend places such as these so you pay for quality. Initially unsure if they were open because there was no greeting till I asked if they were serving but afterwards the lovely lady was helpful in my coffee selection. Side note: Sometimes reviewers can’t tell you that we’re reviewing because we must write about our experience authentically. And we can be anyone from anywhere around the globe. I’m yet to try their selection of teas but might send my friends who are tea lovers instead. Anyway I’m really excited for my morning coffee in the upcoming weeks after purchasing two bags happily! Thank you.

A Melbourne institution, and excellent supplies of coffee, tea and equipment. Check what the tall guy charges you, a couple of times we’ve found it’s a few dollars more than it should be.

Coffee beans from all over the Planet Earth. From Ethiopia with Ethiopian Guji fruity with alight hint of lemon to Australian Gold a caramel flavour and a hint of cocoa grown on the Atherton Tablelands in Queensland to Organic coffees like The East Timor Organic coffee, sweet coffee with hints of lemon. Many coffees to choose from small custom coffee producers to larger growers. Prices are good 500 grams $28.00 to $22.00 if you bring your Bag back you get 0.50 cents off your next one, that's cool. I did an approx. budget. 500 grams lasts me around 14 days at approx 3 coffees per day, that's only around $2.00 per day..Niiice! The friend staff know about their products and always have a smile. They will grind the Beans for for whatever U need wether Stove Top coffee maker or a plunger. They also have a selection of teas and wonderful tea pots and cups which make for great gifts and a selection of great quality coffee makers like their stainless steel plungers which I use and have been using now for approx 5 years. Well worth a look coffee isn't a drink it is a way of life. "Farstar 04082025CE". Plus you are at the Queen Victoria Market sooo take a look Drinking Now: Coffee- East Timor Organic Sweetish taste with a hint of lemon. I will get it again nice after taste. Today picked up some Coffee from Indonesia: Sumatra Gayo, really like this one, Syrupy taste, Not bitter but had a Sharpe edgy after taste. Love this one has a good kick.

Great selection of coffee ( beans and they can grind for you as well) - a variety of flavours and scents. Staff are helpful with recommendations. The first one we tried was really bitter, then I specifically asked for recommendations for a creamy nutty non bitter coffee and have found many different ones since. Highly recommend this store if you’d like to try something new, and enjoy coffee at home.
